Landscaper in Dulwich Village (SE21)

Your local landscaping team, five minutes from the Picture Gallery and the Crown & Greyhound.

Dulwich Village is probably the most protected postcode in South East London. Most of it is still freehold under the Dulwich Estate's Scheme of Management, a lot of the older houses are Grade II listed, and there's a rhythm to the place — quiet, leafy, school-run in the morning, big back gardens with mature trees, hedges that have been clipped to the same line for decades.

Landscaping in the Village gets noticed. Front gardens, in particular. The Estate has views on them. We work to a standard that fits.

We know these houses. The late Georgian villas up Dulwich Common, the big Victorian semis on College Road, the family homes on Burbage Road and Turney Road. We've worked on a fair few — both as Dulwich Landscaping Co and through our sister company, Dulwich Building Co.

Why Dulwich Village clients book us

Careful, unhurried work. Landscaping in the Village isn't a job slammed out in a fortnight. Clients here expect proper groundworks, proper materials and proper detail. That's the way we work anyway.

We know the Dulwich Estate guidance. If your house is covered by the Scheme of Management and you're thinking about a new front-garden wall, replacing your driveway, putting up a pergola visible from the road, or building a garden room — we'll check the Estate guidance with you before we commit. No rejected applications or angry letters.

Respect for mature trees. Most Village gardens have at least one significant tree — usually under a TPO. We respect root protection zones, we don't compact soil over root systems with skid-steers, and we check before any digging within sensitive zones.

Five minutes door to door. Croydon yard means our crews are in Dulwich within twenty minutes most mornings.

A typical Dulwich Village job

The last Village job we did was a four-bed Victorian semi on a side street off Dulwich Common. Sloped garden running down from the house, mature horse chestnut at the back (TPO), an old terrace of pre-cast slabs from the 80s, and a garage at the bottom that the family wanted to convert into a garden studio.

We rebuilt the whole back garden over six weeks. Stripped the old terrace, rebuilt it in sawn London Yorkstone laid to a new fall, built a stock-brick retaining wall to terrace the level change, ran a brick pathway down to the new garden studio (which we built in cedar to match the existing garage), planted the slope with hornbeam, hellebores and ferns, and added soft uplighting through the trees that the client now uses every winter evening.

The Estate signed off the studio under permitted development. Job came in on quote, on time.

  2. Send a plan or photos.
Already have a plan from a landscape architect or garden designer? Upload it. Otherwise, just attach a few photos of your existing garden so we can see what we’re working with.
